Lens and Pen is delighted to have Anne Barclay as an associate in the nefarious arts relating to the world of books. Anne is THE person to contact whether you’re a publisher, agent, acclaimed author or budding writer.
A talented author in her own right, Anne brings a wealth of experience and highly professional skills to bear on our Editorial Services division. Her talents range from taking the raw manuscript of an embryonic book to publisher ready copy through editing to full ghostwriting. Her specific services include:
- Manuscript preparation (taken from hand written or typed copy)
- Rewriting
- Editing
- Copy Editing
- Ghostwriting
The Profession of Pleasure (published by Robert Hale) is one of Anne’s recent ghostwriting projects.
In her early 50s, Cheryl Summerton decided to ‘explore’ her sensual and sexual desires by initially becoming an escort. After spending a year as a working girl, she fell in love with one of her clients, left prostitution, and then wanted to put it all in writing.
Cheryl told Anne her tale (with a mixture of emotions including many mutual gales of laughter) and Anne wrote the book. Once edited (with a few comments from Cheryl’s son brought to bear), the manuscript was submitted to publishers and agents. They had offers within 24 hours!
“… is fascinating and makes compelling reading,” said reviewer Diane Graham. She omitted to mention the humour that threads through the text!@
Over the years, Anne has worked with numerous published and new authors on both fiction and non-fiction books. She worked with celebrity Chef, Keith Floyd on a number of books as well as a TV series. It’s a chapter in her life that she describes as “often challenging, sometimes maddening, but always fun”.
A former journalist, Anne has interviewed a long and varied list of celebrities as well ads the not-so-well-known, is comfortable with them all – and always gets the story. Perhaps it’s time to tell yours.
Tom Elder – Fiona – wrote in his acknowledgement: “That Fiona now snuggles between the covers of the book you are holding is very largely due to the help given by Anne Barclay … what began as a working acquaintanceship has become a friendship that will last beyond the finishing of this book”.
Claire Freer – An Open Question – wrote simply: “to Anne, who encouraged me to publish this book and was so much help”.
Brian Linton – JB and the Doubters – just wrote on the flyleaf of Anne’s copy: “What can I say – thank you!”.
